Abstract

Secondary dyslipidemia is one of the most frequent metabolic disorders in type 2 diabetes mellitus and one of the most important risk factors for the cardiovascular complications of this disorder. Its main features are hyper triglyceridemia, low HDL-cholesterol plasma levels and small and dense LDL-cholesterol particles. The present article is a brief review of the main mechanisms involved in lipoproteins metabolic disorders associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
