Doctor Sofia Ionescu, primum inter pares, - prima femeie neurochirurg din Romania”

Abstract

Born in Moldavia – the province of origin of so many great cultural and scientific Romanian values – in 1920, in Fălticeni, and recently leaving this word in the beginning of 2008, Sofia Hamilton graduated the Faculty of Medicine Bucharest in 1944, and began her remarkable career in the Hospital of Neurosurgery, even during college – 1943 – coordinated by the famous Professor Dimitri Bagdasar, working in the aforementioned hospital until retirement, covering all the professional degrees, from an extern to a first degree currant specialist, head of the ward. Her career, a model of devotion and professionalism, not without obstacles and difficulties, will be shown widely in the paper that is dedicated to her personality.
