Abstract

In the Romanian Countries, the XIXth century evolved under the imperative of national emancipation and development of a far-reaching European humanist and scientific culture in the people´s language. That is what enabled, within certain limits, the „Organic Regulations” in Moldavia and Wallachia and the Habsburgic Enlightenment in Transylvania. Under this quarante-huitard and pro-union climate, the historical Romanian Provinces´ intellectual movements defined an epoch of Romanian language high-school education and press beginnings. Doctor Iacob Cihac, a Czech-ascendance Bavarian and adoption Moldo-Wallach, founder of the Physicians and Naturalists´ Society in the Moldavian capital (1833), published in Iaşi, at Albina Printing House, the first Natural History handbook in „Wallach language” on July 10th, 1837. The paper essentially contributed to knowledge spread and Romanian scientific terminology.
