Abstract

Public health is a multidisciplinary field that includes the use of science and fundamental and applicative education, social sciences, economics, management, and communication skills to promote a prosperous life for the individual and the community. The history of public health is essential for the evolution of thinking about health. The foundation of contemporary public health organization was released at the end of the nineteenth century and first half of the XX century. At present, requirements for public health medical assistance and accessibility to all types of medical services, including those highly specialized and skilled, are inflated and can not be covered by the financial and human resources available. Both developed countries and those in poor or developing countries are confronted with the same problem - effective management of limited resources. Serious health problems have required the attention of universities that were involved in the national control of communicable diseases, some of the nonextension with the mass reduction of infantile mortality or promoting health.
