Abstract

Dr. Ovidiu Pecurariu lived between 1902 and 1990. He worked at the Faculty of Medicine Cluj-Napoca and afterwards in Brasov County for several years. He was from 1962 to 1973 member of the Country Committee of Internal Medicine Society and, after that, of the Gastroenterology Society. His PhD thesis, except the personal contribution, was one of the first Romanian papers about basal metabolism. Among the medical problems that he has studied, we may remember the endemic hypothyroidism that affected our city and county between 1947- 1949, at which he studied 2152 cases, being the first populational study in Romania. Then he studied the viral hepatitis B disease and its relationship to the syringe and needle usage underlying the importance of history for hepatitis B. He has initiated the Medical Days Sibiu- Brasov and Cluj- Brasov.
