Abstract

In Brasov „Paediatric Sanatorium” was opened in 1952 in a place where in the period of time between First and Second World War was a private sanatorium without tuberculosis specific. Send by Health Ministry to open a Paediatric TB Department, Dr. Mihai Calciu together with his wife Dr. Beatrice Calciu arranged this department with 40 beds, who raised in time and where during the more than 15 years together with his colleagues performed a clinical activity and prestigious research. The department was like a small hospital, with a department of bronchology, radiology, laboratory, thoracic surgery, school, restaurant, and play places for children. From the beginning were hospitalised children with TB were hospitalised from counties that surrounded Brasov, and later, the number of child patients increased with the migration of the population searching for work from Moldavia, in the industrial town from the country centre. We made a retrospective activity study of the Braşov Paediatric TB Hospital and its importance in the national and local community.
