Demența vasculară după un AVC unic în „arii strategice” | [The vascular dementia after a unic stroke in “strategical areas”]

Abstract

The identification of vascular dementia implies: the presence of dementia, the cognitive defect must be secondary to a vascular disease, and the exclusion of another potential origin. The goal of this study was to determine the prevalence of pure vascular dementia as a distinct clinical and anatomicopathological entity among other types of dementia, in the patients hospitalized in the neurology and psychiatry wards from Braşov City. Among the 313 patients with dementia, hospitalized from 1 January 2004 – 31 July 2005, 22.68% (71 patients) were found with vascular dementia. Among the patients with vascular dementia, 73.24% (52 patients) had multiple deep cerebral infarcts and 26.76% (19 patients) had a single vascular lesion in strategic cerebral locations.
