Abstract

The main goal of this study is to investigate the normal distribution of some neuropeptide-containing neurons in the human suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). We used antibodies against vasopressin (VP), neurotensin (NT), vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH), and neuropeptide Y (NPY). In SCN we observe NT neurons, more VIP neurons that overlap the zone of distribution of the retino-hypothalamic of tract (RHT), but VP neurons and very few CRH neurons. A large population of MPY neurons obscures the geniculohypothalamic tract (GHT).
