Abstract

Every day we are tempted to consume aliments that we choose by package and not by contents. Many of these aliments are industrially processed and have ingredients that are genetically modified and synthetic preservations, which are known by the name of E’s. Almost 70% of diseases that Romanian people suffer from are provoked by aliments and by the way that they eat. Recent market studies have shown that Romanian people don’t know and don’t think that they are affected by the danger that E’s represent for their health. Because of this reason, the number of diseases caused by the consumption of these additives has risen in the last years. The most severe example is the rising number of cancer cases among children. To highlight even more this situation we have done a study on 150 pupils and students from Brasov regarding the way they are informed about the food additives and the damage caused by them. The results were very concerning regarding the information on the product labels, the knowledge of food additives, and their effects. We had noticed the desire of those questioned to know more about this issue and to find an alternative to these substances, in order to reduce their bad impact on health. Although avoiding products that contain alimentary additives is almost impossible, we point out the necessity of programs that promote a healthy way of life and consumption of natural aliments (“organic” products).
