Abstract

Data from literature show that cerebral blood flow (CBF) is a complex mechanism which has 2 main functions – a. the maintain adequately supply of oxygen and glucose; b. efficient elimination of carbon dioxid and other final products of cerebral metabolism. The functionality of Willis Circle is considered potential – this will be functional at rotation movements of the head or due to stenosis or occlusions of afferent vessels. Willis Circle models which are described in the literature are physically or mathematical, developed from hydrodinamic to computerized. The aim of this study was the calculate flow rates and pressures in Willis Circle in the ideal model with symmetric morphology and in some particularly cases. Mathematical and computerized model were elaborated in 2 steps: the first step was mathematical modelling with a laminar flow of an incompressible Newtonian fluid (blood) in a complex network. In the second step the equations system resulted from equations was numerically solved by an original programme written in Matlab 6.0. We present clinical implications of this type of mathematical modelling.
