Abstract

Cryotherapy is a minimally invasive surgical technique that employs freezing to destroy undesirable tissues. It has an accelerate evolution, advanced in jumps triggered by immediately preceding technological advances. The control of the procedure is difficult, that is why it is necessary to know the mechanisms of tissue destruction and how can we evaluate the extent of freezing and the thermal changes in the frozen tissue. Monitoring the cryotherapy is done using mathematical models, using local measurement techniques through thermometry or impedancemetry and also using imaging techniques (ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography).
