Abstract

Percutaneous nephrostomy is a minimally invasive method of superior urinary collecting system drainage, performed under ecografic or fluoroscopic guidance; it is used in patients with gravity factors for lowering pression and facilitating access to kidney. The aim of the article is reporting the case of a 77 years old patient with left functionally unique kidney and left iliac urethral calculus. The patient presented for acute renal failure and sepsis. After draining the left kidney by percutaneous nephrostomy, antibiotherapy and normalization of kidney function, there were performed uretheroscopy and ballistic lithotripsy of the calculus with paraureteral migration of a fragment and urethral stent was placed. The nephrostome was suppressed and the patient was released. At the 2 months readmission, the initial stent was supressed, but another was placed due to visualization of an oedematous area in left urethras. In conclusion, the method was a life saving procedure in the presented case.
