Abstract

Autoimmune hepatitis is a disease in which the body’s immune system attacks liver cells. It may present as acute hepatitis, chronic hepatitis or established cirrhosis. Without therapy, most patients die within 10 years of disease onset. Treatment with corticoids has been shown to improve survival significantly. The life expectancy of patients in clinical remission is similar to that of general population. We present a clinical case of a young man with autoimmune hepatitis type 1.
