Abstract

The bispectral index measures the electric activity of the brain provides information about the depth of the hypnosis and is useful for the prevention of the intra-anaesthetic awakening. Although it was at first enthusiastically received, in recent years this type of monitoring has been seen as quite controversial due to discrepancies in the data regarding the sensitivity of the method. The study analyses the limits and deficiencies of this type of intra-anesthetic monitoring.
