Abstract

Hypertension, obesity, high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, low levels of high-density lipoproteins, and impairment tolerance of glucose have become important issues of health all over the world and great risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Children are no longer “protected” from this pathology, age-related barriers have been passed in the last decades and now, we are speaking about metabolic syndrome and essential hypertension in pediatrics. Moreover, at this age, the atherosclerotic changes in arteries are already present and there is only “one step to the adult cardiovascular disease”.
