Abstract

Upper airway obstruction and obstructive sleep apnoea in children (OSAS) are recognized as a common health problem in daily ENT practice. If its diagnosis and treatment are delayed, the consequences of sleep-disordered breathing on children’s growth can be severe. Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) is an important and prevalent disease, which is associated with a poor quality of life in many children patients. Understanding the mechanisms of obstructive sleep apnoea and its related syndromes (obstruction syndrome) makes the possibility of using surgical treatments like adenotonsillectomy. This one can resolve a lot of upper airway obstructions improve disordered breathing in children, and increase life’s quality. In this study, 158 patients children with mild to moderate OSAS were evaluated using the Calgary SAQLI questionnaire applied before and four weeks after treatment with an adenotonsillectomy. Conclusion: The systematic use of adenotonsillectomy indicates a clear improvement in the global quality of life as well as in the symptoms of patients with OSAS.
