Abstract

We present a case of a girl 13 years old diagnosed initially with rheumatic carditis and in evolution with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The presence of streptococcal infection and myopericarditis initially oriented the diagnosis to rheumatic carditis. At the first admission, there were not at least four criteria to define the diagnosis of SLE. The fourth criterion positive for SLE (proteinuria) was intermittence and not persistence. We consider this case with potentially severe complications due to cardiovascular and renal damage.
