Abstract

The Gleason grading system for prostate cancer is one of the most effective grading systems for cancer ever developed. The aim of the present study was to analyze tumors with different Gleason scores and to compare the results to clinical features like age, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and T stage. The study group consisted of 170 cases of prostate cancer. Gleason score was evaluated on hematoxylin and eosin-stained, 5μm thick, random sections from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue blocks. Gleason's score correlates significantly with PSA and T stage. The Gleason grading system for prostate cancer is therefore a powerful tool that can help predict outcome for patients.
