Abstract

The liver is the most voluminous organ of the body, performing more than five hundred different functions, each of which is essential to life. Its structure and functions have been studied closely, however, the venous vasculature is of new interest. The liver is also the heaviest organ, because of the blood it contains. It is brittle and less elastic so it can easily break or be crushed. In medical practice, a dramatic liver rupture can often be seen. Almost one-third of the return flow into the right atrium comes from the hepatic veins. The present study aims at bringing information to support medicine, especially surgery.
