Abstract

On the spectrum of non-motor symptoms, cognitive dysfunction, and dementia have a central role. Due to the increase in life expectancy, the prevalence of cognitive dysfunction and dementia is increasing. In the last period, there is more data on epidemiologic, clinical, genetic, and imagistic cognitive disturbances in Parkinson’s disease which could help in better understanding of this phenomenon. During the last years it was an increasing importance of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Parkinson’s disease (PD). This paper is a review of the definition of MCI, its epidemiology, diagnoses, and prognostic factors for conversion to dementia.
