Abstract

The abortion phenomenon remains one of the most complex issues in our present society. Its complexity consists not only in the ongoing debate on legal, medical, religious, and moral terms but also in the involvement of numerous social groups such as pregnant women, the fetus seen both as a human and a non-human entity, the medical staff, the Church and the state itself. This debate is carried among two different groups, the pro-life supporters, who consider the act of abortion as being ‘a crime’, and the pro-choice ones who support the women’s right to decide whether they want to bring a fetus to term or not. A common ground between these groups is still difficult to set
