Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people around the world. OA involves the articular cartilage, the subchondral bone, and the synovium. Causes include aging joints, previous injuries, and obesity among others. Symptoms of OA include joint pain and swelling, stiffness in the morning, and limited range of motion. OA treatment depends on the affected joint but often includes medication exercise, and sometimes surgery. OA gradually worsens with time, but osteoarthritis treatments can slow the progression of the disease, relieve pain, and improve joint function.
