Abstract

Nurses participate in patient care by conducting their own specific activities or tasks delegated to them. As nurses participate in sampling for tests, it is important to know the role of biochemical, microbiological, or hematological tests in establishing the correct diagnosis by physicians. A questionnaire was devised in order to assess nursing students’ knowledge of the various aspects related to the influence of external factors on laboratory tests. The questionnaire was administered to 50 first-year and another 50 fourth-year nursing students. Results were compared to those of tests taken by 50 registered nurses from the hospitals of Braşov. A shortened and slightly modified questionnaire was administered to 50 patients undergoing sampling of biological matters for a range of different situations. Comparative presentation of the statistically processed collected data revealed similarities and differences of the responses. The necessity of improving patient information actions emerged, such as to emphasize the importance of preventing various affections and, within this context, of medical tests and factors possibly influencing test results.
