Abstract

Cranial ultrasound examinations are performed on preterm newborns to provide information about neonatal brain injury for the prediction of long-term neurological outcomes. Because of recent developments in the technology and process of performing cranial ultrasound examinations, and in the classification and understanding of the predictive value of abnormal findings, it is timely and important to consider the value of cranial ultrasound screening in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).
