Abstract

Bacterial resistance is a serious health problem all over the world and a major topic to be discussed therefore should be a focus for all those who are engaged in the battle against infections. Over the last few decades, there are strong signals coming from medical research and international organizations, that there are observed new, dangerous, and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Profiles of bacterial species that are particularly concerning and factors that are contributing to the emergence of resistance are discussed in this review. Strategies in fighting against this phenomenon and prescription optimization based on knowledge about resistance-acquiring mechanisms and therapeutic approaches in specific fields have to be developed and implemented in current practice.
