Abstract

In the medical area communication became in the past years another clinical skill, but a fundamental one. In our days it is generally accepted that the medical staff (doctors and nurses) must communicate with the patients and their relatives more often than fulfilling their medical and nursing procedures. Effective communication between medical staff and patients must determine the increasing efficiency and the level of understanding related to the treatment, which could improve the patient’s compliance and, in some cases, is able to lead to an improvement in their health status. Poor communication is always associated with medical errors and negative health outcomes. Essential changes in the philosophy and culture of the environment of medical care are indeed necessary for increasing the efficiency of medical communication.
