Abstract

As medical knowledge grows exponentially, it is important that medical graduates be prepared to continuously engage in new forms of learning in the future. This article provides evidence from recent research studies for designing teaching frameworks to facilitate active learning for medical students. Active learning is a key element in knowledge retention, deep learning, and academic performance. Current research shows that new approaches to teaching healthcare are: self-regulated learning, computer-assisted learning, simulation, and problem-solving.
