Abstract

Over the years have been introduced and used many deposition techniques to obtain coatings of biomaterial implants in order to increase their functionality. The latest methods, by which coatings of high quality with a variety of special properties were obtained, are pulsed laser deposition and matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation, which are based on the fact that a pulsed laser is able to vaporize congruent and instantly any material. First, their advantage is that materials with complex compositions can be transferred to the substrate without stoichiometry change. In this way is possible to obtain also multi-structures and the size of the layers can be controlled with very high precision (less than angstrom).
