Abstract

In the group of balance disorders, vertigo (feeling of rotation/displacement) is the most common symptom. The next after vertigo, there are sensations of postural instability - generically described by patients as "dizziness". This symptomatology may be an alarm signal for the patient and for the physician, indicating the installation of a variety of disorders, both of the internal ear and of other organs and systems involved in the balance function. Due to the multitude of potential causes, postural instability syndrome remains very difficult to evaluate and diagnose pathology.
