Abstract

Nosocomial infections are an important problem of healthcare activities, known the time. The aim of this review is to convince the health care workers about the evidence base of hand colonization with multi-drug resistant strains of bacteria and about still low compliance to hand hygiene measures (especially alcohol hand rub), regardless of the programs in the hospitals. The knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors of the personnel are influencing factors for adherence to hand hygiene. The patient safety culture in the hospitals, leadership, and education, are the strategies for hand hygiene improvement.
