Abstract

Heat stress is an alarm reaction of the body that occurs at temperatures higher than its capacity to withstand. The objective of the study was to highlight the aspects of heat stress and its consequences on the health condition of the population. Fourteen bibliographic references published over the last 10 years (in Great Britain, Australia, California, the Czech Republic, India, Canada, USA) have been selected. Heat stress is a consequence of reducing the body's capacity to withstand high environmental temperatures. The reduction of the body's capacity to withstand high temperatures is conditioned by personal factors, environmental factors, as well as occupational factors. It is difficult to tell who will be affected by heat stress because individual susceptibility varies. The symptoms are very varied and the most specific are skin rashes, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and strokes. Preventing pathological conditions is much more efficient, simpler, and cheaper than treating them. The consequences of heat stress can be prevented by avoiding heat stress itself.
