Abstract

Aloe Vera (barbadensis Miller) is well known as a multi-beneficial treatment plant, which provides many therapeutical activities for skin disease. This study intends to reveal original pharmaceutical products based on Aloe Vera extract and two probiotic strains, Lactobacillus Casei and Lactobacillus plantarum, formulated as a topical hydrophilic ointment with polyethyleneglycol 4000 and glycerol. The original pharmaceutical product contained 107 log cfu/g of L. Casei and L. Plantarum strains inoculus, after 48 hours of fermentation into an experimental culture media based on electrolytes and Aloe Vera alcoholic extract. The new formula of ointment was preserved at 2-8oC, in the refrigerator, for 28 days. Counts of cfu/g reduced after 72 hours, from 107 to 106, and after 7 days, to 105. The ointment remains organoleptic homogenous, with a pearl-white color and a sweet smell, no microbiological contamination was observed.
