Abstract

The metabolic syndrome is characterized by a cluster of cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors: abnormal blood glucose, abdominal (central) obesity, atherogenic dyslipidemia, hypertension, proinflamatory and prothrombotic status. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is high and expected to increase in the future; therefore metabolic syndrome prevention and treatment are very important.
