Abstract

Pediculosis is defined as an infestation of the hairy skin with lice. These parasites belonging to the Anoplura order, Pediculidae family fed with human blood and deposits their eggs on the hair. Pediculus humanus capitis and Phtirius pubis gens are only parasites of the human body. There are three species of human lice. Pediculus humanus capitis infests the head and Pediculus humanus corporis infests the body and the clothing. Pubian pediculosis or phthiriasis is caused by Phthirus pubis. The treatment of pediculosis consists in topical applications of pediculicid and ovicidal substances: malathion, lindane, pyrethrins and permethrin. Recent observations have emphasized numerous cases of resistance to insecticides.
