Abstract

Health problems can be linked to the buildings where people live or work. There are two categories of “building- associated” health problems. The first category includes the so called “building-related illnesses” like humidifier fever, alveolitis, respiratory infections induced by Legionella pneumophyla, asthma and cancer, especially lung cancer induced by home exposure to radon and radon daughters. The second category is the “sick-building syndrome or tight- building syndrome”. The causes of this later category are ignored. This article tries to present the first category of “building-related” health problems. The causes of these “building-related” diseases are well known, and its‘ impact on human health can be quantified.
