Abstract

The present report is looking after a new perspective over one of the most serious orthopedic conditions in the childhood, the acute haematogenous osteomyelitis, and analyzes the morbidity of this condition in the Orthopedic Department of the Children’s Hospital of Brasov. The study covered the admitted pediatric patients with acute osteomyelitis in the last ten years and aimed to address the diagnostic, therapeutic, and outcome problems of the condition. A total of 65 patients were studied, accounting for 87 admissions in our department. The maximum morbidity of the disease was in the age group between 10 and 15 years old, with 35 patients of the total of 65 studied. The results are relevant for the confirmation and fulfillment of a diagnostic and therapeutic protocol in order to prevent some potentially invalidating outcomes of the disease.
