Abstract

Following the extent of the external fixators application on a large scale, the practitioners grew their interest more and more and, at the same time, the manufacturing companies diversified the range of the external fixators or improved the already existing ones. Since the first external fixator was imagined for the management of a fracture, more than a hundred years ago, the large variety of devices have been selected by the surgical practitioners, thus now remain as current the Orthofix monoplane external fixator and its variants, the circular externar fixator of Ilizarov and the hybrid fixator of Monticelli-Spinelli. Our report presents the most often used external fixators in managing patients with trauma or paediatric orthopaedic conditions hospitalised in the Paediatric Orthopaedic Clinics of Bucharest and Brasov.
