Abstract

Given the need for the acceptable shelf life of berries intended mainly for fresh consumption, it is necessary that their microbiological load be kept at a lower level. Non-ionizing UV-C ultraviolet radiation can be used to decrease the microbial population from the surface of the food, as an alternative to chemical decontamination. This paper presents research conducted worldwide in berries’ decontamination using UV-C radiation.
