Abstract

The 18th–20th centuries represented to anatomy a time of intense development, closely related to other biological sciences and with the progress in the field of physics and chemistry account for a great contribution. During the 18th century, although many anatomists became notorious, in all the existing universities, dissections were held as a demonstration only, in a chamber named „Theatrum Anatomicum”. It was only in the 19th century that students began to dissect themselves, and it can be stated that true practical anatomy teaching began in this century. Anatomy teachers dedicated themselves exclusively to teaching and anatomical research. This fact, along with the progress of research technology, made possible the great achievements of the 19th century. In the 20th century began the analysis and the functional study of anatomical structures, and therefore, functional anatomy was founded. Contemporary human anatomy, biological and functional, along with live anatomy and radiological anatomy, became „the science of living form”.
