Abstract

The term “musical variation” refers to the alteration process of a unit of the musical discourse (motif, phrase, period, harmonic structure, theme, section, etc.). The variation is the nucleus of popular music development. Both the creation and reception process of a song take place simultaneously: Singers and instrumental performers benefit from the audience's feedback, suggestions, and comments while performing a song live on stage. This places them at the core of the song's creation process.
