Abstract

From Joseph Haydn’s vast symphonic and chamber creations, two vocal-symphonic masterpieces stand out: The Creation and The Seasons. Composed in a fruitful period, after his dismissal from Esterhazyi, having a compositional activity acknowledged by the important musical printing houses of the time, Haydn succeeds for the first time in his life in traveling away from Vienna, to London, where, besides the unanimous enthusiasm that he is welcomed with and the success of his London symphonies, Haydn has the opportunity of a deeper analysis of Georg Friedrich Haendel’s vocal symphonic creation, admiring the oratorios composed by the great German composer. Thus, at the age of maturity, Haydn will compose his two masterpieces.
