Translating humour: degrees of equivalence in two versions of Rudyard Kipling’s "Stalky & Co."

Abstract

The present paper analyses degrees of equivalence in the translation of verbally expressed humor. Contrary to the traditional belief that it is the dynamic equivalence that is more effective in translating humor, the paper attempts to demonstrate that formal correspondence might be as effective in certain cases.
