Adaptations of the Schenkerian Analysis to Post-Tonal Music

Heinrich Schenker restricted his analytical application to the baroque to romantic German repertoire. As a result, a series of theorists attempted to apply his approaches beyond this range. In view of that, one has to consider the extent to which Schenkerian analysis may provide information regarding post-tonal music. Therefore, analysts have to begin with Schenker’s own ideas about analysis to show how they are not abandoned in the analysis of post-tonal music and then examine the literature that offers insight into this theoretical issue.Downloads
