Abstract

Giuseppe Verdi’s Messa da Requiem is a profoundly religious work, although its composer was skeptical about the afterlife (like Johannes Brahms’ German Requiem) – according to the notes of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for the interpretation of the Requiem. Starting from this statement, it is easy to identify the moments in Verdi’s life which drove him to write such a work.
