Abstract

The EU countries have been affected by COVID-19 disease with different intensities. Some countries faced a higher number of ill people and deaths, while others seem to record fewer cases and lower case fatality rates. These last countries better handled the physical distancing measures of their population. The entire European population is scared of the rapid evolution and spread of the pandemic. The present paper highlights the positions of EU countries in May 2020 and the main factors influencing the differences of the EU countries fighting COVID-19 disease. The conclusion argues the huge influence of pollution on the evolution of COVID-19 and the direct connection with economic development.
