Abstract

The present paper offers a theoretical insight regarding the quality of life and health state of people with mental deficiency. Research results regarding the link between physical activity and the quality of life of people with mental disorders are discussed. The literature review outlined that physical activity generates major benefits for people with mental deficiency. Conclusions point out the need to implement physical activities that can be performed by people with mental deficiency to increase their quality of life. Public and private stakeholders should cooperate in order to develop specific strategies and policies, as well as adapted programs for people with mental deficiency to maintain their health status and quality of life at a decent level.
