Abstract

This paper aims, firstly, to give a brief account of a few perspectives on history, as an autonomous discipline, in order to better understand Julian Barnes’s interpretation of history, his reflections on the development of mankind. Secondly, it aims at reflecting on a number of Julian Barnes’s commentaries on history, seen both as personal history, and as History, in the acception of a Grand Narrative, to use Lyotard’s term.
