Open Access at Romanian Universities: Benefits and Challenges

Abstract

This article will first of all draw on the potential of open access for science and research. In the next step, it will provide information on the institutional attempts to put open access into practice in Romania through policies on digitized content and research, as well as through projects. Then, it will discuss the problems the implementation of the concept raises in Romania. Finally, some suggestions for further research and actions concerning a successful implementation of the open access concept in Romania will be made.
