Les faux amis et la traduction

Abstract

In this article, we intend to study the way in which false cognates appear in translation. Translation is indeed a complex activity that implies changing speech or writing into another language. The accuracy of this change may be endangered by the use of inappropriate terms which bear a slight resemblance to the appropriate term. The slight resemblance turns out to be dangerous for the translator and for the translation. False cognates prove to be mistakes that can easily be avoided.
