Abstract

This article focuses on the paradoxes of the father-son relationship as presented in the novels of the Swedish writer, Göran Tunström and Nobel Prize winner, J.M.G. Le Clézio. The absence or the death of the father progresses toward an identity crisis, leading to the difficulty of connecting or relying on other people. Trying to fill in the gaps left by the non-present father, the children will imitate, substitute, or abandon their parents in order to find their inner selves.
